Still Stuck? Here’s How to Finally Decide & Move Forward

Last week, we explored the hidden costs of indecision—the way it drains energy, erodes confidence, and keeps us from making real progress.

If you missed it, can read the newsletter here.

This week, we’re moving from awareness to action.

Because noticing where you’re stuck in half-decisions is one thing. Actually committing and following through? That’s where everything changes.

I know this because I’ve been in the loop of overthinking, waiting for the “right time,” and second-guessing my own choices. I’ve sat in indecision for way too long, convincing myself I was “figuring things out” when, in reality, I was just avoiding commitment.

But here’s what I’ve learned:

A decision isn’t just a thought—it’s an action.

A real decision moves you forward. It removes hesitation. It stops the exhausting back-and-forth in your mind and replaces it with clarity and momentum.

So today, I want to share what’s helped me move from sort-of deciding to fully committing.

Step 1: Declare It Clearly

A half-decision sounds like: I think I want to start taking my coaching business more seriously.

A real decision sounds like: I’m going to sign three new clients in the next 60 days.

See the difference? One is vague. The other is specific.

For years, I made half-decisions without realizing it. I’d say things like, I should be more consistent with my marketing, but I wouldn’t define what that actually meant. And because I wasn’t clear, I stayed stuck.

When I finally started making specific, concrete decisions, everything changed.

Instead of I want to get in shape, say I’m committing to working out three times a week for the next month.
Instead of I need to put myself out there more, say I’m posting three times a week for the next 30 days.

Clarity removes hesitation. If you can’t state your decision clearly, you haven’t actually made it yet.

Step 2: Take Immediate Inspired Action

This part is simple: once you’ve decided, do something right now to solidify it.

Not later. Not tomorrow. Now.

I used to make decisions in my head and then wait for the right time to take action. But the longer I waited, the harder it became to follow through.

So now, when I decide something, I take action immediately—even if it’s small.

If I decide to start running, I put my shoes by the door or schedule my first run today.
If I decide to switch careers, I update my resume or reach out to someone in my desired field.
If I decide to stop overcommitting, I say no to something that doesn’t align with my priorities.

Even a tiny step forward reinforces the commitment and keeps you from slipping back into hesitation.

Step 3: Burn the Backup Plan

This one is uncomfortable—but necessary.

When we leave ourselves an easy way out, we take it as soon as things get hard.

I used to keep “backup plans” in my coaching business. I’d tell myself, If this doesn’t work, I can always go back to doing X instead.

And you know what happened? That tiny bit of doubt made me less committed. It made it easier to slow down, second-guess, or not go all in.

Now, instead of creating escape routes, I ask myself:

What would I do differently if I trusted that this was going to work?

That question changes everything. It shifts your focus from Can I? to How will I?—and that’s the mindset that separates people who get results from people who stay stuck.

Step 4: Stop Re-Deciding Every Day

This is where most people get tripped up.

They make a decision—but then they re-decide it every single day.

Should I really do this? Is this the right path? Maybe I should wait.

And suddenly, they’re back in the same cycle of hesitation.

But here’s the shift: instead of asking, Should I do this?, start asking, How can I follow through on what I already decided?

This small change reduces doubt and helps you stay in motion.

Final Thought: Decide, Then Trust Yourself

Decisions don’t have to be perfect to be powerful.

The real power comes from commitment—trusting yourself enough to follow through without constantly looking back.

So, what’s one decision you’ve been revisiting that you’re ready to finally commit to? Name it. Declare it. Take the first step right now.
